Registrations are open for “Regional pathways to turn crisis into competitive advantage: from adversities to opportunities”, an EURADA event in collaboration with NIRAS in the framework of the UCORD – Ukraine’s Cohesion and Regional Development project. The event will take place during the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026 in Brussels on 12 October 16:00 – 18:00 at Residence Palace, Rue de la Loi 155. 

As regions face increasing pressure to adapt their economies, the question is no longer only how to recover from disruption, but how to use moments of change to accelerate innovation, industrial upgrading and long-term development. Competitiveness increasingly depends on the ability of territories to mobilise local assets, strengthen innovation ecosystems and connect businesses, institutions and knowledge actors around shared priorities for transformation.

This discussion is especially timely in light of the growing debate in Europe on territorial competitiveness and strategic autonomy. Ukraine, in particular, arises as an example: its private sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of unprecedented disruptions, and that is playing a critical role in the country’s recovery and reconstruction. On top of this, regional and local actors, including public authorities, Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and innovation intermediaries, are playing a pivotal role: together, they are demonstrating strong willingness to develop their institutional capacity in order to sustain economic activity, support business continuity, plan recovery and modernisation, and position their territories for future integration into wider European value chains and policy frameworks.
